Baptist Medical Center and
Wolfson Children's Hospital

Virtually all specialties of medicine are represented on the medical staff and all services except Level I Trauma services and some transplantation services are provided. Ancillary services such as pathology, anesthesiology, and imaging services are particular centers of excellence.
Baptist Medical Center Downtown has been designated as both a Chest Pain Center and a Stroke Center and is recognized as the center for Bloodless Medicine and Surgery in North Florida. It has also been designated as a Magnet Hospital, the highest honor a healthcare organization can receive for excellence in patient care.
On the same campus as Baptist Medical Center Downtown is Wolfson Children’s Hospital, a large tertiary care children’s hospital offering a complete range of children’s services.
The Emergency Department at Baptist Medical Center Downtown sees more than 110,000 patients per year (adult and pediatric ER’s, combined) and just completed renovation and enlargement. The Emergency Center comprises 92 patient beds with separate areas for critical care, emergency women’s services, children’s critical care, and separate pediatric and adult Fast Track areas for non-threatening illness and injury.
The pediatric emergency department of Wolfson Children’s Hospital sees over 49,000 patients per year and is staffed by physicians trained and certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. All physicians on staff in the Emergency Department are board certified.
The Hyperbaric Oxygen Unit is contiguous to the Emergency Department and operates a large multi-place hyperbaric chamber. Attached to the Hyperbaric Center is the Wound Care Center which operates both inpatient and outpatient services. Physicians in these areas are similarly trained specifically in Wound Care and Hyperbaric and board certified as well.

The Emergency Department operates a short stay observation unit and has within the department its own imaging service including computed tomography. Immediately contiguous to the Emergency Department are the operating rooms, the endoscopy suite, imaging services and laboratory services.
Connected to the Wolfson Children’s Hospital on the Downtown Campus by an elevated walkway crossing Interstate 95 is the Nemour’s Clinic, a multi-specialty pediatric clinic comprised of almost 200 physicians covering the entire spectrum of pediatrics sub-specialty care.
The Emergency Center at Baptist Medical Center Downtown offers a continuing education program highlighted by an annual Risk Management Meeting, as well as regularly scheduled educational meetings and Journal Clubs. In addition, resident physicians from the University of Florida Health Science Center Jacksonville and the Mayo Clinic Jacksonville rotate to our department. Educational programs for nurses and paramedics are also offered on a regular basis and medical students from LECOM began rotating in our department in 2007.
